The Union County Health Department, in partnership with St. Jude lab, is now offering COVID-19 PCR testing on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am-1pm through the month of October (no testing on Monday, Oct. 11). This testing is a drive thru service at the Union County Fairgrounds (use Route 4 entrance). Results take 24-48 hours to return. Appointments are strongly encouraged and can be booked at unioncountycovid.org/testing.
Patients should bring a photo ID and insurance card. No one is turned away if they are uninsured. PCR testing is a laboratory test that detects RNA fragments of the SARS CoV-2 virus. A PCR test is often the type of test required for travel or other recreation or work activities that have testing requirements. A PCR test may also be recommended by a healthcare provider as the PCR test is a more sensitive test and can detect lower levels of virus. Samples for this test are collected by using a swab in the mouth and back of throat (similar collection as a strep throat test).
Rapid At-Home COVID-19 antigen test kits are also available for curbside pickup from the Union County Health Department, Marysville Public Library and Richwood Public Library. To learn more about home test kits, go to unioncountycovid.org/testing.
