12 to 15 year Old individuals Now Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccination: Beginning with our clinic today at the Union County Fairgrounds (Noon-4p), we will vaccinate individuals age 12 and older. A parent or legal guardian must accompany minors under age 18 to their vaccination appointment. Walk-ins welcome or book a spot at www.uchdclinic.org or 937-645-2020. This expansion in the vaccination effort comes on the heels of recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) and the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization for the Pfizer vaccine. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) updated its EUA for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on May 10 to include ages 12-15, determining that the known and potential benefits of this vaccine in individuals 12 years of age and older outweigh the known and potential risks. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Wednesday offered its support of the vaccine’s use in this population after its Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) reviewed safety and efficacy data and recommended its use to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

According to the FDA analysis, the Pfizer vaccine is safe and offers strong protection for younger teens and adolescents based on testing of more than 2,000 U.S. clinical trial participants ages 12 to 15. The study found no cases of COVID-19 among fully vaccinated adolescents compared to those given the placebo. Researchers found the kids developed higher levels of virus-fighting antibodies than earlier studies measured in young adults.

Ohioans age 12 to 18 who have received at least one dose of vaccine will be entered into a drawing for a full-ride scholarship to an Ohio college or University.

Updates on COVID-19 Testing in Union County: After 11 months of public testing clinics, Lower Lights and the Union County Health Department have concluded the drive thru COVID-19 testing. Free home test kits are now available from the Union County Health Department, the Marysville Public Library, and the Richwood-Northern Union County Library. These Abbot BinaxNOW COVID-19 Home Test kits use nasal swabs to provide results in minutes, detecting the virus when people are most infectious.  The test is self-administered, with telehealth support via video call to ensure proper administration.  Please call ahead to request a kit for curbside pickup (Marysville Library and Union County Health Department) or lobby pickup (Richwood-Northern Union Library).  These tests are not to be performed inside the libraries or health department. Test kits are recommended for people with symptoms of COVID-19 or who have known exposure.
