Vaccine Update: Governor DeWine has indicated the vaccine supply will remain limited for many weeks to come. We are hopeful that vaccine supply will increase as additional vaccine manufacturers receive Emergency Use Authorization, potentially even with additional vaccine manufacturer’s coming online in March. We are thankful for your grace and patience as we work to vaccinate as many people as we can with the limited vaccine arriving each week. We estimate that there are about 2,500 people in the 75 and older age group with a weekly vaccine supply estimated to be about 300-500 doses coming into Union County each week, divided amongst the approved COVID-19 vaccination providers – currently Kroger Pharmacy in Marysville and the Union County Health Department.

Residents Age 80 and Older: This week we are beginning to vaccinate individuals age 80+. Union County is set to receive 200 doses of vaccine this week (week of Jan. 18). Appointments for these 200 doses opened on Friday, Jan. 15 and were all booked within 30 minutes of the vaccine scheduler opening. Once we receive notification of what quantity of vaccine to expect for next week, we will again open the scheduler to book appointments for the upcoming week. Information on when and how to book an appointment for next week will come out in the coming days.

Kroger pharmacy in Marysville is also receiving allotments of vaccine and is set to begin vaccinating individuals age 80+ this week (week of Jan. 18). For information on Kroger pharmacy’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts, please visit kroger.com/ohiocovidvaccine  or call 866-211-5320.

Residents Age 75 and Older: Individuals age 75 and older will be eligible for vaccination beginning the week of Jan. 25. The doses will remain limited. Vaccination will be by appointment on a first come first serve basis. Appointments can be booked online or by calling our office. Information on when and how to book these appointments will come out in the coming days.

Residents with Severe Congenital or Medical Conditions: Governor DeWine outlined today his plan for vaccinating a subset of Ohioans with severe congenital, developmental or early onset medical conditions. Vaccination of persons with a developmental or intellectual disability who also have one of the conditions listed in the graphic below, will be vaccinated in coordination with the Board of Developmental Disabilities. Individuals who fit the criteria will be contacted to arrange vaccination through the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities. This vaccination effort will begin Jan. 25. Because the current vaccines are only approved for use in persons 16 and older (Pfizer) or 18 and older (Moderna), this vaccination effort will not include children under these ages.

Individuals who have one of the defined severe congenital, developmental or early onset medical conditions who do not have a developmental or intellectual disability may be eligible for vaccination as early as Feb. 15 per Governor DeWine’s press conference today.

The list of severe congenital, developmental or early onset medical conditions is based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Vaccination for Adults in Schools: Governor DeWine updated today that vaccination of school staff will begin as early as Feb. 01. This vaccination effort will be through closed clinics and will occur over the month of February. Locally, we are working with our local schools to be ready when this vaccination effort is approved to begin.

               Ohio’s Phase 1B COVID-19 Vaccination Timeline*:

  •                Week of Jan. 18 – Ohioans age 80+

COVID Variants: Several new variants of the COVID-19 virus have been identified in the US and here in Ohio. Research suggests these variants may be more contagious than the original virus. However, research has not indicated to date that the variants result in more severe illness.
